Social Justice and Tech Reading Group

The Sara Fine Institute at School of Computing and Information and the Research, Ethics and Society Initiative (RESI) are pleased to co-sponsor a Social Justice and Tech Reading Group, beginning in Academic Year 2020-2021. All students, staff, and faculty are invited to participate in discussions of recently published texts that explore technology and implications on health and wellbeing, data ethics, and designing for social justice.

The Social Justice and Tech Reading Group will engage with a new text each semester. In the fall 2020 semester, we will read Matt H. Rafalow’s timely Digital Divisions: How Schools Create Inequality in the Tech Era (University of Chicago Press, 2020). Ruha Benjamin’s Race After Technology: Abolitionist Tools for the New Jim Code (Polity Press, 2019) will be the book selection for the spring 2020 semester.

Please register and find more information about the fall 2020 reading group meetings here.
